Using a target objects Material ID property is an easy way to manage distribution for multiple panel types.

With the Populate/Skip mutation you can limit paneling to odd/even faces, or create regular gaps. This gets interesting with multiple panel elements on the same target surface. To create a checkerboard pattern, just set the first panel to populate every 2nd target face, while the other panel skips it.

Open Populate:Panels from the main menu bar, ‘Tools -> Populate:Panels…’.
The fastest way to get started, is loading a panel preset. With the current beta version there is only one preset available, ETFE Cushions.
When picking a target surface, keep in mind that only quad faces will be populated.
